This week Howler staff sat down to meet our new assistant principal, Julieann Usry! We are very excited to welcome her to our pack! Get to know Mrs. Usry through the questions below!

Q: What was your previous position?
A: I was an English teacher at Sunlake High School in my previous position.

Q: Which grades will you be overseeing?
A: I will be overseeing both 7th and 8th-grade students.

Q: What are your responsibilities here compared to your previous job?
A: There are many changes in my new role. I hope that I will be able to inspire teachers the way I was able to inspire students in my previous role. I also hope to build solid relationships with the faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community of CCMHS.

Q: What inspires you to teach?
A: I am a firm believer that all students deserve a great education and that it is my duty as an educator to ensure students are ready for college, career, and life.

Q: What made you want to become an AP?
A: I want to inspire both students and teachers to work hard to achieve their goals. I want to instill a growth-mindset to ensure that everyone is able to find solutions to difficult barriers. I am a firm believer that overcoming challenges leads to the greatest rewards.

Q: What subjects did you teach when you worked as a teacher?
A: I taught English 1/English 1 Honors, Theatre, Debate, and Musical Theatre.

Q: What are you most excited about in getting started at CCMHS?
A: I’m looking forward to meeting and getting to know everyone on the campus as well as getting to know the parents and the community.

Q: What other schools did you work at?
A: Pasco Middle School

Q: What is your opinion on journalism programs?
A: I love journalism programs! I think they are a great way to teach students communication skills to prepare them for real world scenarios.

Q: What are some of the most important programs or aspects of education to you?
A: All programs are important to me because they all assist students in finding out who they want to be in their futures. Offering many programs to students allows them to find out what they are most interested in so when they are moving into college or career they are better prepared for what will make them the most successful.

Q: What are some of your favorites about the youth and getting to interact with them on a day-to-day basis?
A: I really enjoy working with students and helping them to overcome challenges. I also enjoy talking with students and assisting them in making the best selections for their courses that will best prepare them for their future careers.

Q: What are some of the things you enjoy outside of school?
A: Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family, photography, furthering my education, and reading articles.
