Cypress Creek High School cheerleading, a team where 19 girls came together as one to make history. In February 2024, our cheerleaders attended The America’s Cheerleading Cup Championships where our game day team took home second place and our traditional team took home first, which earned them grand champions. Grand Champion is a difficult title to achieve; our cheerleaders put in countless hours of hard work and determination to make their skills and routines as consistent and clean as possible, and performance ready.
Winning last year has only raised their dedication and drive more, there are numerous ways the team has already started preparing for this year’s championship.
Junior Madeline Feldman said, “We have been doing drills every day and preparing a routine starting from basics and getting better.”
Feldman added, “We have a lot of new people this year and have skills that we did not have previous years.” Which makes them confident that they have a shot at winning again.
Winning didn’t come easily, there are many challenges the team faces, but the way they overcame these challenges is what is so important.
Junior Julia Feldman said, “We sometimes get down on ourselves for falls and mistakes we make, but just focusing on the good things we succeed in helps us to overcome our mistakes.”
Teamwork is a big aspect of cheerleading, the chemistry the team builds within one another, the trust each person has in each other is key to a successful team.
Junior Rilyn Hellwig said, “As a flyer, having trust in my bases is key to hitting our stunts. If my stunt group and I do not communicate and trust each other, we will not succeed.”
Hellwig added, “Remembering that we all have the same goal, which is to be the best we can, helps us to not get frustrated with each other over little mistakes and instead to talk with each other on how we can improve.”
Our championship cheer team will begin to defend their title once the football season concludes on Thursday Nov. 7.
