Cypress Creek High School’s pride and spirit for the school is overwhelming and powerful. The pep rally on Friday the 13th of September displayed this in full swing. The pep rally began in the morning and lasted around an hour. During this time, the school gymnasium was overflowing with excited students and teachers. The pep rally had games, awards, and most of all, a very energetic atmosphere. Not everyone enjoys this though, and some students decided to abstain from attending. But why wouldn’t they want to go?
Students had many reasons to both go and stay away from the pep rally. Some of these reasons included the number of people, the noise, or simply not wanting to participate in the games and cheering. A sophomore, YasLynn Gonzalez, said, “It was too loud and overwhelming. The loudness made me uncomfortable.” Though this is just one of the points of view.
Many people had lots of fun at the pep rally too. A freshman, Solana Ramos, someone new to the school said, “I thought the pep rally was exciting.” Being newer to the school carries an enthusiasm that others may lose. When you don’t know what to expect, everything feels so much more exhilarating and catches your eye.
Of course, there are people who have attended Cypress Creek for a long time and still have lots of fun and look forward to pep rallies. A senior said, “I always look forward to the pep rallies and being able to cheer with my friends. They’re always a lot of fun.” This obviously shows that for some people, that excitement doesn’t die down.
Even though some people think the pep rally is overwhelming, others find it something to look forward to. It’s interesting how even though everyone is going to the same place, opinions differ so much. Another student said, “I didn’t go to the pep rally because I don’t enjoy them but all of the people I talked to about it said they had fun there. Maybe I’ll give it a try next time.”
