In a highly anticipated showdown, Cypress Creek High School faced off against Sunlake High School in a game that delivered on every promise of excitement. The game, held at the Sunlake Seahawk’s home field, drew a raucous crowd, with supporters from both schools filling the stands and creating an electric atmosphere under the Friday night lights on November 1st .
At the start of the game, Cypress kicked off to Sunlake, giving Sunlake the ball on their own 45-yard line. After many failed plays, Sunlake got a 45-yard rushing touchdown, which gave them the point- making the score seven-to-zero. To follow up, the Creek showed out with an amazing 30-yard passing touchdown, completed by senior Shaan Patel. Then, to tie it all up, the Coyotes made the point after a touchdown, completed by junior Cason Corrao, leaving the score seven-to-seven.
Senior Shaan Patel said “After my touchdown the atmosphere was very electric, and it felt great to get back into the game.”
Cypress again kicked off to the Seahawks, putting the ball on their 20-yard line. Only seconds after junior Jayden Martinez, intercepted the pass from the Seahawks and put the ball on their 28-yard line. Thanks to Martinez, the Coyotes got a 28-yard passing touchdown completed by Patel. Wanting to get an even higher lead after the touchdown, Corrao made the point after, leaving the score 14-to-seven.
Corrao said “Being able to take the lead felt exciting. I was feeling very confident that we were going to keep scoring and our defense was going to get a stop.”
After the two touchdowns, Sunlake kicked off to the Coyotes and they had the ball on Sunlakes’ 37-yard line. After a couple of plays, the Coyotes scored a touchdown, thanks to senior Drew Pfeiffer. Thanks to Corrao as well, he completed another point after a touchdown, making the score 21 to thirty.
Pfeiffer said “We found the open space and we had a nice drive going down the field, and we were really getting momentum.”
Going into the final quarter, Sunlake then kicked off to the Coyotes, putting the ball on their 20-yard line. Junior Patrick Cognetta completes an 80-yard pass for the touchdown by junior Eisa Choudhry. Corrao then made yet another point after a touchdown, the win imminent for the Coyotes.
Choudhry, playing hard on the field, said “Number two was talking smack to me, and I had to show him who number nine is!”
Cypress kicked off to Sunlake resulting in them recovering a failed offside kick- putting them on our 47-yard line. After many plays, Sunlake gets a rushing touchdown and made the point, ending the anticipated game with a score of 28 to fifty-five, and crowning the Sunlake Seahawks victorious.
“I really thought we had a good chance,” said junior Robert Mesa, “but they just ended up being better than us.”
