At the pep rally on December 6, Cypress creek high school students were celebrating the upcoming holidays and winter break. Everything was decorated from top to bottom, there were huge posters, holiday decorations, and lots of handmade decor to go with each classes theme to make the pep rally more exciting. The stands were filled, there was chaos, students were engaged in all the activities throughout the pep rally, and fun resonated through the football field. The atmosphere was thrilling, students could not wait for the pep rally to begin as it was the first time in Cypress Creek Highschool history that a pep rally was held outside.
“Being here since freshman year all of the pep rallies have been inside having this one outside was a fun and different experience,” said junior Jessie Payano.
This pep rally, which was organized by the student government, showcased a new and unique performance by the members of student government themselves, the Christmas Carol Battle. Each class starting with the class of 2028 performed a dance they learned and made. The pep rally also included several games such as the musical chairs scavenger hunt which was musical chairs with a twist. Students had to find the item from their student section before grabbing a seat. It also included a field goal kick competition, whoever kicked the ball through the goal post moves onto the next round getting further and further away making each round more difficult. Another game was candy cane toss, for this game two students held the tinsel, and another would have to throw the candy canes on to it. The team with the most candy canes wins. These were just a few games out of the many exciting and fun ones to watch. With these games the enthusiasm of the student body was through the roof, students were on their feet cheering and rallying on their class as every game began.
“It was a funny experience to get to do the Christmas Carol Battle with my friends even though we basically improved it,” said junior Alyssa Maldonado.
The cheerleading team also performed a routine. It was filled with flips and pyramids, leaving the crowd cheering, and clapping at the end. The pep rally ended with Principal Carin Hetzler–Nettles going around every class to see who cheered the loudest for the spirit stick. The seniors won and they could not help but scream 10 times louder as their faces lit up in realization they had beat every other class.
“I was disappointed in my class because we had the most people and yet we still lost to the seniors,” said freshman Aubrey Lachance.
An atmosphere of enthusiasm and unity persisted as the pep rally ended, and students began to pour out of the stadium bleachers as they headed back to their classes. The students seemed to enjoy it as it was a common discussion for the rest of the day. It was an experience and something many students who attended will remember.
“I enjoyed performing in front of everyone and seeing all the holiday spirit,” said junior cheerleader Julia Feldman.
