The Cypress Creek Coyotes after their first playoff win in program history against the J. W. Mitchell Varsity Hockey Team.

A month into the inaugural season of our Cypress Creek High School Coyote Hockey team their jerseys arrived. Their skates were worn. Their sticks showed scars of missed opportunities and their blades were puck-marked with experience. ‘‘We started out hot going 4-1 in our first five games which was a great feeling,” said Coach Powers, the varsity head hockey coach.  The Coyotes would drop their next seven games, placing them last in their respective division. “The next seven games were losses which wasn’t fun, but the message was the same from the beginning that they were the ones to write their story,” said Powers.  The team would get back on track, winning their next 11 games, putting them back into a playoff spot leading us to tonight’s championship. “I cannot say how proud it made me when they got themselves back in the race and haven’t looked back since,” Coach Powers reminisced.

From a seven-game losing streak, to winning 11 straight games, and going into the championship, our Coyotes Hockey team have made quite the turnaround. The Coyotes will face off against Steinbrenner High School tonight at 8:45pm in Brandon, FL. for the Lightning Cup. Skating to keep their “Cinderella Story” going, with a win, they will earn a trip to the Florida High School State Finals in Orlando later this month.

The Coyotes (15-8-0) have not dropped a game since Oct. 27.  Since then, they have outscored opponents 85 to 30, and have engraved themselves as the top offense in the league, based on Goals Per Game. Tonight, they face the league’s best defense in a battle to go to the Florida High School Hockey State Championship in Orlando.

Come Support your JV and Varsity Cypress Creek Coyotes tonight at TGH IcePlex in Brandon. JV starts at 7 p.m., followed by Varsity at 8:45 p.m., as both teams attempt to make school history.
