On the night of October 1st in Cypress Creek Highschool’s very own prized performing arts center, the intermediate guitar and orchestra classes each performed on stage for the first time in the 2024-’25 school year. They demonstrated an array of talent and expertise with their instruments- with some piano in-between, and a whole, excited, passionate crowd of friends and family to support.
This concert would mark the first time ever that an intermediate guitar class has properly performed and marks a significant milestone in the musical department’s development. The students began to play at 6:30 p.m. and their songs lasted until about 7:15 p.m. With tickets costing only five dollars, the concert served as many things: a display of art, a social gathering, and a way for musically inclined kids to connect.
“The guitar group was really fun, I got closer to some people and made new friends,” said senior Morgan Brown, a member of Guitar Three- which is the intermediate class for guitar students.
Brown also served as the announcer for this concert, not only performing with her guitar- but standing on stage and letting the audience know what was to come, such as the songs that would be performed. While the orchestra performed an array of more classical pieces, the guitar section played much more mainstream and popular songs- such as Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter. Neither were easy, though, and students had to practice hard.
“I practiced for whole class periods in school and then at home- as soon as I was finished studying, I would practice. I also practiced a lot during the days off from hurricane Helene,” Brown added.
Though, everything went to plan, and the hard work paid off. The crowd was excited to watch the students perform and showed their love through lots of cheers, shouts, and plenty of applause for the hard-working musicians.
When asked if there were any major concerns or fears about the concert, both Brown and Zeina Elhemaly- a senior violin player- both agreed that there were none. “No, there weren’t really any concerns from me,” Elhemaly said. “I was only really worried about announcing,” replied Brown.
This is just one of many concerts, however- and there are plenty more to come. In the winter season- December 5th, the beginning orchestra and guitar will have their first swing at being able to display their talents on stage, too- and there are even more planned after that to give students more chances to perform, and viewers more opportunities to appreciate the work.
“I would just say practice hard,” said Brown, “and it’s definitely worth it to take the class in the end.”
